St Michael and All Angels’ bonfire and fireworks party will start with the bonfire at 6.30pm, followed by the fireworks at 6.45pm on Saturday in the church grounds. Admission is £1.50 for adults, 50p for school age children and toddlers free. Hot dogs and drinks will be on sale.
Members of Houghton Older People’s Enterprise will enjoy a fish and chips lunch at 1pm on Thursday followed by entertainment from Jeff Wright in the Methodist Church hall.

Hide AdSpeaker at Houghton Methodists Tuesday Fellowship was Minister the Reverend Slaley about his visit to the migrants and refugees camps in Calais.
Circuit Superintendent Minister the Reverend Alf Waite spoke to Houghton Methodists Women’s Fellowship on the subject of Humility. He was thanked for his thoughts by leader Iris Richardson.
Members of Sunniside Methodist Men’s Fellowship enjoyed a pie and peas supper and a general discussion on current topics, including their forthcoming anniversary weekend and inevitably Sunderland AFC.
Rebecca Davis and Rebecca Thompson, who train at Burnside Workingmen’s Club at Burnside, double graded at their latest grading event.
