Hide AdAnd Phillips, who said he was interested in the job himself before Parkinson’s appointment last year, believes Pearson’s no-nonsense approach is just what the Black Cats need.
Many fans agreed with Phillips that Pearson would be a good appointment for the Wearsiders – here are some of the responses from our Sunderland Echo SAFC Facebook page.
Dave Myers said: By far the best option for us at this moment in time. Can't see it happening unfortunately as I think the new owners will lean towards a younger bloke and more of a coach as opposed to an old school manager.
Rob Rodiss agreed: I’ve said it a few times now, if this club has any ambition they HAVE to go for Pearson. Offer him complete control of all transfers, team selection, youth development and give him some money to use.

Hide AdBill Lynn replied: Nigel Pearson built the foundations for Leicester winning the Premiership in 2016. If Sunderland have any ambitions, aside from just promotion to The Championship, Pearson is exactly the sort of manager required.
John Teasdale asked: Do you think Pearson would work under a director of football or whatever they call them now?
Marc Fearnley added: This would be tremendous for the club,if only the hierarchy had the fans vision, the feel good factor would certainly return
Dave Carney posted: Just give him the job and get done with it.

Tom Duffy responded: Hope they do get Pearson and Phillips cracking bunch.
Barry Shaw queried: Good choice but would they be able to afford two big wages?
