Sunderland’s promotion bid to the FA Women's Championship has been successful – leaving the Wearside community overjoyed.

Mel Reay’s side will finally move into the second-tier after witnessing the previous two seasons curtailed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

With the best points-per-game average in the third division in that time – and a strong cup record, supporters and those further afield feel it is nothing more than the Lady Cats deserves.
